Inherent Vice is to the 2015 Academy Awards what American Hustle was to the same event in 2014. And, it was released at about the very same time too, in December. Like [I know, again] American Hustle, Inherent Vice is a 1970s throwback filled with era-apparent music, fashion, stereotypes and so many familiar actors that I don’t know where to draw the line in listing them; Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Jena Malone, Owen Wilson, Benicio Del Toro, Martin Short, Michael Kenneth Williams, Eric Roberts….. The film is directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, adapted from a a novel by Thomas Pynchon and the short storyline description is ‘In 1970 drug-fueled Los Angeles, detective Larry “Doc” Sportello [Pheonix] investigates the disappearance of a former girlfriend.’ Anyway, like any guilty pleasure, even if the storyline doesn’t turn out to [don’t get me wrong, I have only seen the trailer, so it could] be amazing, the talent in this film alone is enough to give you viewing pleasure. I know at least one that I will be doing in December. You should too. Watch the official trailer here.
