Absinthism.  1800s.  A disease resembling alcoholism.  I can only surmise that Absinthism resembles alcoholism in that the afflicted would imbibe too heavily not simply of alcohol, but specifically of absinthe.   In fact, it seems that ‘Absinthism’ was a colloquialism used in the 19th century to describe those who liked to drink absinthe and not in fact an official medical term related to any disease.  Such as one might use ‘Beerism’, ‘Wineism’ or, in my case, ‘Vodkaism’.
