Read. The Kept. By James Scott. Set in rural New York state at the turn of the twentieth century, a mother and her young son embark on a quest to avenge a terrible and violent tragedy that has shattered their secluded family. A scorching portrait of a merciless world, of guilt and lost innocence, atonement and retribution, resilience and sacrifice, pregnant obsession and primal adolescence. Scott introduces an old-beyond-his-years protagonist, indelible and heartbreaking, as well as a shape-shifting mother, enigmatic and mysterious.

Listen. Lily Allen. L8 CMMR and Air Balloon, are both singles off her forthcoming record. Still no word yet on the title or release date for Allen’s third album, but she drops a new video for one of its singles, Air Balloon, and a new song, L8 CMMR, a pop-electric, candy-coated ode to falling in love, which is featured on the latest HBO ‘Girls’ soundtrack. Air Balloon’s video is a sun drenched, fun, tiptoe through the tulips type, with Allen frolicking on a dreamlike safari complete with butterflies and zebras.

Re-watch. American Hustle. Okay, so this is a re-peat. However, it should come as no surprise, as the film clearly deserves it, having already scored wins and nominations from all the usual awards franchises. “It’s like flowers, but with garbage.” If you have seen it, you’ll understand.  If not, you will.  Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, Jeremy Renner, Robert De Niro and more grace the screen in this intentionally ridiculous crim-edy, set in the seventies, brimming with over-the-top scammers and mobsters dipped in era-apparent groovy hair and fashion, all scored with perfect timing to an epic 70s rock-pop soundtrack.  How can you resist that?
