Forgotten English Friday.

Today’s word isn’t a word, but an adynaton.  “Queen Dick.”  An adynaton is a figure of speech in the form of hyperbole that takes to such extreme lengths insinuating a complete impossibility.  In this age, we would use “When pigs fly” or “Not in a million years” or some other such expression.  Basically, it means never, never, ever.  In Victorian and earlier times, we would have said “Using this adynaton in casual conversation today, would happen in the reign of Queen Dick.”  Challenge convention.  Go ahead and try it.
